Steps

1. Combine dates, water, sugar and orange rind in a saucepan; cook over medium heat until thick and smooth.
2. Remove from heat, add orange and lemon juice; mix well.
3. Cool before spreading. Yield: enough to fill an 8-inch or 9-inch layer cake.
