Garlic Cheese Bread
Cheesy garlic bread baked in loaf pans.
Steps
- Heat milk and butter to 120°F. Combine 3 cups flour, cheese, garlic powder, yeast, salt, sugar and warm milk and mix.
- Knead until smooth and satiny using remainder of flour.
- Place dough in greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
- Cover and let rise in cool place till doubled in bulk.
- Punch down. Cover and let rise again until almost doubled in bulk.
- Turn onto lightly floured board.
- Divide dough in half; let rest 5 to 10 minutes. Shape into loaves.
- Place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled.
- Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes, reducing to 350°F till done.
Notes
- To make onion bread: Use one packet dry onion soup instead of garlic powder and omit salt.
- When bread is baking, a small dish of water in the oven will help keep the crust from getting hard.
